NEMA Cruising 2019

By Bob Gleason

Cruisers are welcome to join the NEMA Picnic at the Gleason house for the Buzzards Bay Blast June 15th. On the evening of the 15th there will be a NEMA BBQ/picnic dinner at the Gleason house in Wareham on Buzzards Bay.  There is good holding ground to anchor in front of the house and a gentle beach where you can leave a dinghy.  Cruisers are encouraged to join the festivities by boat, and NEMA members are also welcome to come by land.

Black Dog Dash
The BDD is NEMA's best attended sailing event of the year. There will be at least one cruise leading into the event, which is scheduled for Saturday July 20.  Cruisers and racers alike enjoy the summer ambience of the Vineyard and delight in watching the hordes of vacationers stuck in traffic jams from their decks. Cruisers  can rendezvous the Tuesday before the trace at Hadley's Harbor, Wednesday night in Cuttyhunk, Thursday night in Lake Tashmoo, and Friday night on the beach --or at a mooring --in Vineyard Haven.  The schedule will vary with wind and weather.

August Cruise: Traditionally we have scheduled a weeklong cruise in early August.  Locations have varied from Long Island Sounds, Cape Cod and the Islands, Cape Cod Bay, and the Maine Coast.  If you have a cruise you'd like to make, you are likely to inspire others to join you.

Start a Cruise
For those of you on the Northern or Southern fringes of NEMA (Maine and Long Island Sound), how about organizing a cruise in your area? Show off what your home turf is all about.

Any (and all) NEMA members are encouraged to organize cruises. Cruises happen when members make them happen. Don't just sit by and wait for someone else to do all the work.
