Hello NEMA cruisers,

Please join our late‑summer NEMA cruise to, in, and around Long Island, New York.  Come and enjoy the best days of summer exploring this region’s beautiful cruising grounds.

Primary Rendezvous

  • When: Saturday, September 5 at 4:00 PMish
  • Where: Coecles Harbor, Shelter Island (east end of Long Island)

From there, we’ll cruise and explore the many protected bays, beaches, and seaside villages in the area, moving at a relaxed pace and adapting plans based on weather and group preferences.

Returning Home

  • When: When you are darn good and ready
Some plan to start the journey home on Thursday, September 10.

⚓ Boats Approaching from the East (Tentative Plan)

For boats planning to approach from Narragansett Bay and points east, the pre‑rendezvous plan is as follows:

  • Thursday, September 3:
Depart the Newport area around noon and overnight in Smelt Brook Cove, upriver from Point Judith

  • Friday, September 4:
Continue west, anchoring overnight at Napatree Beach, conditions permitting.

On Friday we hope to meet up with some of the fine sailors from the Stonington area before heading on to Shelter Island the following day.

These plans are informal and weather‑dependent, and boats are welcome to join for any portion that fits their schedule.

Boats Coming by Trailer

Boats from too far away to join by water are encouraged to join the cruise by trailer.

  • Launch location: Fort Adams / Sail Newport
  • You can travel with the Narragansett Bay fleet, joining the same east‑to‑west cruising plan on September 3–4
  • We’ll help coordinate trailer parking and assist with logistics or local knowledge to make launching and joining the fleet as easy as possible

If you’re considering trailering, please let us know early so we can help make arrangements.

⚓ Cruise Highlights (Tentative)

  • Informal day sails, beach stops, and exploring the warm, protected waters of Long Island
  • Time to enjoy ashore stops, swimming, and relaxed evenings
  • If Alex B joins us, we will have an optional fun race circumnavigating Shelter Island

Participation is flexible — members are welcome to join for part or all of the cruise.

ℹ️ Notes

  • This is a NEMA members cruising event
  • Informal, non‑competitive, and participant‑organized
  • Each skipper is responsible for their vessel, crew, and navigation
  • Daily routing and overnight plans will remain flexible and weather‑dependent

Please reply if you’re interested, even tentatively, and let us know:

  • Whether you plan to make the main Saturday rendezvous
  • If you’ll be approaching from the east or joining by trailer
  • Roughly how many days you expect to cruise with the group

This will help with coordination and follow‑up communication.
