The Gunboat 66 Phaedo is a customized carbon "cruiser/racer" catamaran launched in 2010. In 2011 Phaedo began a racing campaign which included events that have historically been the proving grounds for many of the worlds top ocean racers. Phaedo debuted in the Caribbean 600, a warm-weather, 600-mile race starting and finishing in Antigua. Phaedo then went on clocking up the sea miles in some of the most elite races around the world, including a David and Goliath showdown in the Transatlantic Race, followed by the grueling, 603-mile, Rolex Fastnet Race between Ireland and England. Rachel Jaspersen, who has worked with Gunboat for the last 10 years, was pivotal in this successful racing campaign, heavily involved with logistics and responsible for Phaedo's media. Her presentation will inform, amuse and entertain ... from the serious side of organizing entries, crews and logistics, to quirky stories from her travels on boats, planes, helicopters and the odd fishing boat to bring the story to the media. Backed up with video clips and images, she discusses what went right, what went wrong, and how it might be done better the next time around. Peter Johnstone, the founder and CEO of Gunboat, which is headquartered in RI, will talk about how cruising catamarans have evolved and of Gunboat's involvement in that evolution during its 10 year history. He will look at some of the newer designs and how they may interest more people in pursuing their dreams on a multihull. The Annual Dinner also features the 2011 NEMA Racing and Cruising awards, a delicious buffet dinner and the years best opportunity to schmooze with over 100 NEMA members.
